[TABAC] prévention:campagne:campagne médiatiqueIndex. décimale : TA 5.4 Prévention et médias Résumé : News coverage is associated with a variety of health behaviors, but studies have yet to assess the indirect effects of news coverage generated by a health promotion campaign. The Florida Tobacco Control Program (FTCP), a youth-led marketing and grassroots campaign launched in Florida in 1998, provides the opportunity to examine the effects of program-related newspaper coverage on youth smoking behavior. Articles were collected from Florida daily newspapers, content analyzed to identify the prevalence of topic-specific coverage, and merged by county and year to the Florida Youth Tobacco Survey, a statewide, representative survey of Florida middle school and high school students administered between 1998 and 2002. Trend comparisons and logistic regression models, controlling for alternate explanations, show that FTCP newspaper coverage (particularly coverage of youth advocacy efforts) contributed to observed declines in current smoking. Newspaper coverage of health communication campaigns may represent a meaningful, indirect source of campaign effects. [TABAC] sevrage tabagiqueIndex. décimale : TA 5.2 Méthodologie et enquête Résumé : Purpose: To assess the predictors of smoking cessation and intention to quit among the Chinese elderly smokers. Design: A cross-sectional survey of elderly smokers.
Setting: Shamsuipo district, Hong Kong. Subject: A total of 1,318 elderly were interviewed (response rate = 83%).
Measures: A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire sought information on the subject’s socio- demographic background and smoking habits. The predictors for successful quitting and intention to quit were assessed by chi-square tests and multiple logistic regres- sion.
Results: Of the respondents, 20.2% were current smokers, 25.4% were ex-smokers, and 54.4% were never smokers. Of the smoker (current and ex-smokers) respondents, 55.7% (335/601) had successfully quit at the time of enumeration. The predictors of quitting were living with others, receiving assistance for mobility, being nondrinkers, smoking for shorter duration, and smoking more cigarettes per day. Having health problems in the past, smoking for shorter duration, and smoking fewer cigarettes per day were predictors of intention to quit smoking.
Conclusion: The study identified several predictors of successful quitting that could help improve the provision of current smoking cessation services. Population-based smoking cessation programs, especially those targeted to elderly, should take these predictors into consideration in the design of interventions.

Permalink : https://biblio.fares.be/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=1963 Exemplaires (1)

[TABAC] tabagisme:tabagisme actifIndex. décimale : TA 3.2.2.4 Pathologies respiratoires (sauf 3.2.2.1, 3.2.2.2, 3.2.2.3) Résumé : The high prevalence of cigarette smoking in patients with respiratory disease puts them at risk of developing clinically important drug interactions. Cigarette smoking reduces the therapeutic response to certain drugs such as theophyllines through the induction of hepatic cytochrome P450 isoenzymes. Smokers with asthma and patients with COPD have reduced sensitivity to corticosteroids, possibly due to non-eosinophilic airway inflammation, altered glucocorticoid receptor activity or reduced histone deacetylase activity. Although all smokers should be encouraged to stop smoking, there is limited information on the influence of smoking cessation on the therapeutic and anti-inflammatory effects of a number of the drugs used in the treatment of respiratory disease. [TABAC] tabagisme:tabagisme actif:tabagisme adolescentIndex. décimale : TA 8.8 Publicité Résumé : Telephone interviews were conducted with more than 900 adolescents aged 12 to 18 as part of a multimillion dollar, statewide, antitobacco advertising campaign. The interviews addressed two primary questions: (1) Do counter-advertising campaign attitudes directly affect antismoking beliefs and intent in a manner similar to those of conventional advertisements? and (2) Can advertising campaign attitudes have a stronger effect on beliefs and intent for adolescents with prior smoking behavior and for adolescents exposed to social influence (i.e., friends, siblings, or adult smoker in the home)? The authors' findings show that advertising campaign attitudes, prior trial behavior, and social influence all directly affect antismoking beliefs and that advertising campaign attitudes interact with prior trial behavior to strengthen antismoking beliefs. The results indicate that attitudes related to the campaign, prior trial behavior, and social influence directly influence intent, and advertising campaign attitudes interact with social influence and prior trial behavior to attenuate adolescent intent to smoke. In addition, the effect of advertising campaign attitudes in attenuating social influence and prior trial behavior effects on adolescent intent to smoke persists even when the authors account for strongly held beliefs about smoking. The authors discuss implications for countermarketing communications and the design and understanding of future antismoking campaigns.
